As a PFC I arrived at the 34th General Hospital in March of 1959 and was promptly assigned to the Chief Nurse's Office as a clerk typist working for Lt Col Malmberg. I was promoted to Sp4 while there.

Later I was reassigned to the Registrar's Office where I worked for Captain Ryan and handled Birth and Death registration.

I left the 34th in March of 1961 as an Sp5 and with a ton of good memories.

I particularly remember all the weekends in Paris where Kereks, Alexander and I photographed the city by day and partied by night. I even slept on the steps of the Metro one night (yes at the Pigalle stop) because I arrived too late and they had closed the gate and I didn't have enough money for a taxi.

Enclosed is a picture of my wife and I. We were married in September 1961. I just recently moved and this is the only pic of me from back then that I have on my computer at the moment. But I don't think I changed much in that 6 months so I should look familiar to those of you who knew me.

After my first tour of duty in Vietnam I received an inter-theater transfer back to France where my wife and I were stationed in Poitiers. On a trip to Paris we stopped off at the 34th and I was a bit saddened to see that the snack bar had all but been replaced with vending machines. As I stood there I couldn't help remembering all the time spent in there talking with great friends over coffee.

I wound up making the Army a career and retired in 1979 while stationed in St. Louis.

After my Army career I worked in private industry for 3 1/2 years and then took a job with the Marine Corps in Twentynine Palms, CA. I worked for them for 16 years and retired again.

In 1999 I left California and moved back home here to Missouri.
